2003 Monthly Letter
Dear
Partner In Ministry,
Jesus
was praying in a certain place, and when He ceased, one of
His disciples said to Him, 'Lord, teach us to pray.
Luke 11:1
While
I was at First Presbyterian Church in Santa Paula, California,
the Lord inspired me to compose a GOODNESS
prayer for both individuals and couples to pray with or
for their loved ones.
It
is modeled after Jesus prayer for His disciples in John
17. Since it is His words, it is therefore His will for us.
I
encourage you to consider making a 30 day prayer covenant
with another person and praying it with or for each
other during that time. You will note that there are two versions
of it, one side for individuals
and the other for those married.
Jesus
said, If you abide in me and my words abide in
you, ask whatever you will and it shall be done for you.
John 15:7
Again,
He said, Truly, truly, I say to you, if you ask anything
of the Father, He will give it to you in My name. Hitherto
you have asked nothing in My name; ask, and you will receive,
that your joy (GOODNESS) may be full. John 16:23b-24
I
am now using this prayer in the UpBuilding Weekend sessions.
It is having profound effects upon those praying it with a
partner, family member, or mate.
To
help participants get started, I suggest each person pray
in alternating fashion the indented bold italicized script
under each letter of GOODNESS with one another,
either out loud or silently according to the preference of
each individual. (God hears our silent hearts expressions
as well as our audible words.)
For
many, this is the first time they have prayed with another
person. For others, the first time they have prayed outloud!
A frequent written comment by those attending the session
for Couples is: This is the first time in our 20+
years of marriage that we have prayed together! Thank you
for helping us get started.
So,
please try it for yourself. See what happens! I would be pleased
to learn what GOODNESS in your life results from it.
Let me know.
Thank
you for your inspired prayers for me and for UpBuilding Ministries.
I appreciate your partnership and faithful support. We, like
other ministries and churches experienced a downsizing in
financial giving in 2002. Yet, God is always true to His Word:
He will supply all of your needs according
to His riches in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:19
And He has faithfully done so through you!
Ron
